Use testimonials, client stories, and case studies to build trust in an AI-driven world.

Are your clients playing a starring role in your project stories—or fading into the background? In the A/E/C industry, technical expertise is expected. What differentiates you is how well you bring your clients’ voices to life.

Are your clients given a cameo role, a supporting role, or are they a star? The answer? It depends on the project’s significance and your firm’s long-term goals.

AI can draft a service summary. It can’t tell the story of why your relationship mattered or how you solved a client’s problem. That human perspective is the social proof prospects are seeking.

Consider how you can highlight your clients’ voices, depending on your goals.

Three ways to use client voices

  1. Client Testimonials: The Cameo Appearance: quick validation when client access is limited. 1–2 sentences; adds credibility with minimal effort.
  2. Brief Client Stories: The Supporting Role: a short narrative plus a quote to highlight challenge → result. 1–2 paragraphs; shows real-world impact and collaboration.
  3. Client-focused Case Studies: The Starring Role: Use for strategic/high-profile work. 1–2 pages with visuals; builds deep trust, and showcases expertise and outcomes.

When to use what

  • Use testimonials to reinforce standard project summaries or award entries. (Get permission to republish.)
  • Use brief stories when you can share the client’s challenge, your approach, and measured outcomes (e.g., park usage up, retail traffic increased).
  • Use case studies for strategic projects. Include metrics, visuals, a client headshot, and—optionally—your project manager’s perspective. Add a clear CTA.

Bottom line

In the age of AI, a human-centric approach wins. Whether it’s a cameo, supporting role, or starring role, let clients speak. Authentic stories show the value your firm delivers.
