I’ve performed in women’s dance groups for more than 20 years — and one routine, involving a flowing veil, still sticks with me. I’d never danced with a veil before, but I was determined to master it. Why? Because I cared. Because I wanted to connect with the audience — and with my fellow dancers.

That same drive — that passion — is what fuels truly compelling A/E/C content. Without it, even the most technically polished story can fall flat.

I still remember the moment our instructor introduced the veil into the choreography. As she demonstrated the sweeping movements, I realized I was in over my head. Other dancers had used veils before. I hadn’t.

But I wasn’t about to back out — and I knew I couldn’t figure it out on my own. If my veil was out of sync, the audience would see it instantly. I had to reach a certain level of mastery — and that meant asking for help.

So, I signed up for two private lessons with our instructor, who owned a Madison, Wisconsin dance studio. I recorded videos of the choreography to practice at home.

The effort paid off. I performed the dance successfully — and even better, our group reprised the number at a benefit show, earning rousing applause. It was a proud moment for all of us, including my instructor.

Are You Creating Inspired Content?

So, what does dancing with a veil have to do with your firm’s content?

A lot, actually.

Just like my performance, producing content that truly connects takes passion, dedication, and — sometimes — extra support.

You need to feel inspired to create content that captures your audience’s attention and holds it. AI tools can help generate ideas or refine drafts, but they can’t replace the emotional connection of human storytelling. Especially in A/E/C industries — where trust, relationships, and reputation are everything — content without a human touch can fall flat.

Instead of simply saying your firm offers great service, show it. Tell the story of the engineer who resolved frozen pipes at a construction site over Christmas weekend. Or spotlight how a community was finally enjoying clean drinking water from their faucets thanks to your team’s water treatment plant.

Stories like these don’t just explain what your firm does — they show the impact your team makes.

Share Content That Connects

Want to create content that resonates? Start by aligning it with your firm’s strategic goals:

  • What message do you want to share?
  • Who’s your target audience, and what matters to them?
  • How does your content reflect your firm’s identity and vision?

Engaging content also demonstrates your firm’s expertise and problem-solving skills. Case studies, client success stories, and behind-the-scenes features show how your team delivers exceptional results. And visuals — like high-quality graphics and photos — reinforce your message and strengthen your brand.

Bring Passion Into the Process

Don’t overlook a key piece of your content creation: Passion!

Prospects expect A/E/C firms to have technical expertise. Clients and prospects also want to see the human side of your team — the creativity, dedication, and problem-solving that differentiates your firm.

Maybe you want to elevate your content like I did with my dance — through additional training, coaching, or by trying something new. Or maybe your time is better spent managing proposals or developing client relationships. In that case, outsourcing to a freelancer or agency can help you create content that reflects your firm’s voice and values.
