Although it was 13 years ago, I still remember how a multidisciplinary firm where I worked celebrated its 50-year milestone. In honor of its incorporation in 1962, the Wisconsin-based company developed a special logo, distributed anniversary shirts, and celebrated its origins and growth over the years.
Was the effort worth it? Absolutely.
So what about your Architecture/Engineering/Construction firm or industry organization? Should you celebrate a milestone event, or is it just a distraction, irrelevant, or too costly?
Done right, a milestone celebration plays a strategic role in building your brand. It offers a natural hook for telling your organization’s story in a way that engages clients, showcases your culture, and gives employees a reason to feel proud.
And what’s more, you can plan a celebration to match your budget, size, and goals. It’s a time to thank your clients, staff, and partners and share what makes your organization unique.
Magnify Your Brand
Does your firm or industry association have a milestone anniversary coming up in the next few years? If properly executed, an anniversary celebration can provide benefits such as:
- Brand Visibility—Public recognition helps with recruitment, client retention, and differentiation
- Trust and Credibility—A milestone signals stability, resilience, and expertise
- Relationship Building—You have a reason to reconnect with past clients, industry partners, and prospects
- Employee Engagement—Share your founders’ story, and celebrate your shared history and accomplishments
Consider Engaging Content Ideas
Milestone anniversaries are a great time to share your organization’s stories and reinforce its values. Consider content such as:
- Origin stories, turning points, and big wins
- Historic photos and quotes that celebrate your legacy
- Features on long-term employees and clients
Some organizations go deeper by developing anniversary books that highlight major projects, milestones, and key moments that shaped the firm’s identity.
Another option is to create a visual timeline, combining archival and current photos—perfect for office displays, websites, and/or social media.
AWRF’s 50-Year Celebration
The Associated Wire Rope Fabricators (AWRF) will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026.
Its members are active in the lifting, rigging, and load securement industry. Emily Gilbert Wagner, co-owner at JAGwire Management, Wixom, Michigan, helps manage the association.
“We started planning early because a meaningful celebration takes time,” Wagner reports. “We’re creating a 50-year-old video, pulling together historical photos and articles, and creating special mementos.”
AWRF will host its anniversary celebration in Maui, Hawaii.
For AWRF, the 50-year milestone is an opportunity to serve members at every stage, from veterans and founding members to companies that have just joined.
“It’s not just about where we’ve been—it’s about where we’re going,” says Wagner.
Maximize Your Milestones
Is your organization approaching a milestone year? It’s not just another number on the calendar; it’s a strategic opportunity.
A/E/C firms and associations help build stronger communities, improve safety, and deliver innovative solutions. Anniversaries offer an opportunity to highlight the people and stories behind that impact.
